When a loved one passes, the first moments can be a blur of shock and grief. For one family we worked with, that moment came while the executor was out of town, far from BC, far from the hospital, and suddenly responsible for making arrangements he had no time to prepare for. He called us the moment his loved one had passed. That call set everything in motion.
He was the executor, and the work was mounting. Estate matters, travel logistics, and a life back home that required his return. He carried a heavy load with little time to absorb the loss. The last thing he needed was to sit across a desk for a formal meeting, navigating a checklist of decisions.
We heard the strain. We told him: you do not have to come in. You do not have to be here. At Compassionate Cremation, we can handle the details from a distance, so you can be where you are needed.
All of our paperwork at Compassionate Cremation is handled through DocuSign. Online forms that are clear, step-by-step, and accessible from any device, anywhere. He was able to review and sign everything from his phone, at his own pace. No appointments. No driving across town in a fog of grief.
That simplicity isn’t accidental. We’ve been in this industry long enough to see how overwhelming the arrangement process can become when families are asked to make decisions they didn’t need to make, in rooms that aren’t easy to be in, under time pressure that feels impossibly short. For a direct cremation, most of those decisions simply aren’t necessary and we don’t ask for them.
Most people in BC who choose cremation want the essentials handled with care and without complication. That’s what we offer.
The moment we received his call, we arranged the transfer of his loved one from the place of passing into our care. DocuSign forms were sent shortly after. We reached out to the attending physician to obtain the necessary documentation and registered the passing with BC Vital Statistics to begin the death certificate process.
Once the cremation was complete, we didn’t just email him a confirmation. We delivered the cremated remains, the death certificates, and the forms for the CPP death benefit directly to the executor. He had everything he needed in one delivery, so he could move forward with his next steps without hunting for paperwork.
We could hear it in his voice. The family told us they appreciated how clearly we communicated throughout no surprises, no ambiguity, no waiting for answers that didn’t come. They felt informed at every stage.
When you’re an executor managing a loss from out of town, that kind of clarity isn’t a bonus. It’s essential. Grief already takes enough from you. The process shouldn’t take more.
That’s something we believe deeply at Compassionate Cremation, and it’s something this family reminded us of. They didn’t need an elaborate process. They needed a simple one, done well, by people who actually picked up the phone.
We also set him up with access to Cadence: our free executor assistance tool, included with every cremation. Cadence helps executors manage the practical tasks involved in settling an estate: checklists, deadlines, notifications, and step-by-step guidance, all in one place. For an executor working remotely while also grieving, having that structure can make an enormous difference.
You don’t have to be in BC to arrange a cremation here. Whether you’re in another city, another province, or another country entirely, we can walk you through every step remotely, without pressure, and without asking you to be somewhere you can’t be.
If a loved one has recently passed, or if you’re managing affairs for someone whose health is declining, reach out to us now. We’re available around the clock.
Yes. Our entire process is designed to be completed remotely. From DocuSign authorization forms to direct delivery of the cremated remains and death certificates, there is no requirement to be physically present in BC to manage arrangements on behalf of a loved one.
Under BC law, the executor named in the will is the person authorized to approve a cremation. If no executor exists, the authorization falls to the adult spouse, then next-of-kin in order of legal relation. If you’re unsure whether you qualify, give us a call and we’ll walk you through it with no pressure, no judgment.
The process typically takes 7 to 10 days from the time we receive authorization and complete paperwork. BC law requires a mandatory 48-hour waiting period before cremation can proceed. We’ll keep you informed at every stage so there are no surprises and nothing is left uncertain.
Yes. Once cremation is complete, we deliver the cremated remains to you directly, along with death certificates and any other relevant documentation including information on the CPP death benefit, where applicable. You don’t need to arrange pickup or travel to collect anything.
The Canada Pension Plan death benefit is a one-time lump-sum payment made to the estate of a deceased CPP contributor. Most Canadians are eligible for up to $2,500. We include the relevant application forms as part of our delivery so the executor has everything they need to apply without having to track it down separately.
Sadly, when a loved one passes, the most significant distress for the executor usually comes from the tasks involved in closing. We want to change that.
Included with your cremation, Cadence is a secure, easy-to-use digital tool that helps you manage the tasks of settling an estate. The software gives you step-by-step guidance, informative resources, phone and email support, and—most importantly—organization of all your tasks so you can find peace of mind. The market cost is over $600, but our buying power allows our clients to access Cadence’s services at no charge.
